A Registered Nurse (RN) plays a crucial role in healthcare settings, providing direct patient care, managing care plans, and supporting the healthcare team. They assess patient needs, administer treatments, and ensure patients receive the highest quality of care.

Job Description:

Key Responsibilities:

  • Patient Assessment: Perform initial and ongoing assessments of patients’ health status, including monitoring vital signs and symptoms.
  • Develop Care Plans: Create and implement individualized care plans based on patient assessments, ensuring they align with the patient’s medical needs and goals.
  • Administer Medications and Treatments: Provide medications, injections, and treatments as prescribed by physicians. Monitor and manage side effects or adverse reactions.
  • Patient Education: Educate patients and their families about their medical conditions, treatment options, post-care instructions, and healthy lifestyle choices.
  • Monitoring and Recording: Track patients’ progress, noting any changes in their condition, and update patient records accurately in compliance with healthcare standards.
  • Collaborate with Healthcare Team: Work alongside doctors, other nurses, and healthcare professionals to coordinate and provide comprehensive patient care.
  • Assist with Procedures: Support physicians in medical procedures, assist with surgeries or diagnostic tests, and provide necessary pre- and post-operative care.
  • Patient Advocacy: Advocate for the rights and well-being of patients, ensuring they receive the appropriate care, and provide emotional support when needed.
  • Emergency Response: Be prepared to handle medical emergencies, providing life-saving care like CPR, wound care, or advanced cardiac life support (ACLS) if necessary.
  • Supervision of Other Staff: Supervise and mentor nursing assistants (CNAs) and other support staff, ensuring they are following patient care protocols.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Education: A nursing degree (Associate’s Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)) from an accredited program.
  • Licensure: Must have a valid RN license, passed the NCLEX-RN (National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses).
  • Clinical Skills: Proficient in clinical procedures, critical thinking, and patient care management.
  • Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills to interact effectively with patients, families, and the healthcare team.
  • Attention to Detail: Ability to notice small changes in a patient’s condition and take appropriate action.
  • Compassion and Empathy: A caring attitude toward patients, especially when dealing with challenging or sensitive conditions.
  • Physical Stamina: Ability to work long shifts, including standing, walking, and assisting with patient movement.
