Job Title: Personal Care Assistant (PCA)

Job Summary:

A Personal Care Assistant provides non-medical assistance to individuals in their home or residential care setting. The PCA supports clients with daily living activities such as personal hygiene, mobility, meal preparation, and light housekeeping, fostering an environment of independence and comfort. The PCA plays a vital role in maintaining the client’s physical, emotional, and social well-being.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Personal Care Assistance: Assist with activities of daily living (ADLs) including bathing, grooming, dressing, toileting, and oral hygiene.
  • Mobility Assistance: Help with walking, transferring, and positioning clients safely in and out of bed, chairs, or vehicles.
  • Meal Preparation: Prepare and serve meals based on specific dietary needs or preferences. Assist with feeding if necessary.
  • Medication Reminders: Ensure the client takes prescribed medication as directed and assist with reminders.
  • Household Tasks: Perform light housekeeping duties such as cleaning, laundry, and organizing to maintain a safe and tidy environment.
  • Companionship: Provide companionship and emotional support by engaging in conversation, activities, or hobbies that promote social interaction and mental well-being.
  • Transportation: Assist with transportation to appointments or social activities, either by driving or accompanying the client.
  • Monitoring Health and Well-being: Observe and report any changes in the client’s condition, behavior, or physical appearance to the family or healthcare provider.

Qualifications:

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent. Additional certifications in personal care, such as Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) or Home Health Aide (HHA), are preferred.
  • Experience: Prior experience in caregiving, personal care, or a related field is preferred but not always required.
  • Skills:
    • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively.
    • Ability to assist with mobility and personal care.
    • Knowledge of basic first aid and emergency procedures.
    • Compassionate and patient attitude.
  • Physical Requirements: Ability to lift, transfer, and assist with physical tasks, which may involve bending, lifting, or standing for extended periods.

Working Conditions:

  • Work is typically performed in a private home or care facility.
  • Hours may vary based on client needs, including part-time, full-time, or live-in care.
  • The job may require occasional weekend or evening shifts.
